Germany’s Fedor Holz returned to winning form on Saturday by taking down the Triton Super High Roller Series London’s Event #2, $25,000 NLHE 7-Max. The win was Holz’s third career Triton victory and the first for him since 2017. Holz topped the event’s 120-entry field to claim the largest share of a $3 million prize pool.
In the end, Holz’s triumph in London came at the expense of American Chris Brewer, who was also seeking his third career Triton title. It would’ve been Brewer’s third Triton win in a little over a year, and the runner-up finish continued Brewer’s global heater, which also includes two bracelet wins at the WSOP earlier this summer.
While any Triton super-high-roller event will be loaded with elite pros, in the end Holz and Brewer chose to make a deal during heads-up play, with both players short-stacked and Brewer holding about a 3:2 edge in chips. After running the numbers, Brewer locked up $600,647 while Holz assured himself $569,853.
The two players also left $40,000 to play for, assuring that whoever won would cash, in total, for the higher amount. When Holz came from behind to win, his total payday became $609,853, just $9,000 more than Brewer’s.
Holz, who turned 30 the day before this event started, credited a more relaxed approach as one of the keys to the win. He also noted, “I think it gives a lot of confidence if you win a tournament,” he said. “I think you just believe more in your decision-making, so I’m super excited for the rest of the week. I think I’ll have a lot of fun.”
